Starting your new deck
Stone and Steel Constructions’ objective is to provide a high quality, unique new or remodeled deck or exterior living area for a reasonable cost. Starting a new project is just as easy as getting your idea on paper, pulling the permits, and getting a reliable contractor to do the work. Working with you we can finalize your idea down to the materials used, the square footage of your deck, and accessories on it. Choosing materials such as the type of decking and railings used will determine how your new deck is built. Wood decks although keeping the cost lower have a variance in the length and width. The boards can shrink or swell up depending on the current climate and weather. Once the boards have been set there are steps that can be taken to keep your deck looking nice and healthy. Wood decks will also require, bi yearly staining or painting of the wood to create a moisture barrier.
Renovating or Repairing your existing deck
Is your deck to the point where you are afraid to walk on it? Is the wood rotting or cracking? These are and should be easy repairs but can also be early signs of a more serious problem. When seeing cracking or rotten boards on the surface, there is a decent chance that your joists are rotting as well. Joists are structurally crucial to your deck, they help distribute surface weight along the length of the board. Replacing a joist does take a little bit of time because you have to remove all surface boards attached to them. Once that is done removing nails and replacing the rotten joist with a new one fixes the issue.
Trex decks
Trex Enhance composite decking is made from 95% recycled content and is easy to cut and drill with standard tools. Composite decking is made from a mixture of wood fibers and plastic polymers. It requires less maintenance than wood and is crack resistant. To keep from changing the look of the deck, we used Trex hidden deck fasteners, which allow you to put the decking down without visible screw holes. Rather than driving nails or screws through the face of each board, these clips are tucked into the groove on the side of each board and screwed down to the joist. Then the groove of the next board slides over the other side of the clip. So both boards are held securely in place, and there are no fasteners visible on the surface of the deck.
